This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers such as entry level programmers, programmer specialists, computer programmers, senior programmers, chief business programmers, programmer analysts, and information systems programmers in the Information Technology career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Information Technology career cluster. Note: Applicants should have basic computer skills such as keyboard proficiency, Internet browsing and searching, and proficiency with an office software suite (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.) prior to the start of the program. Application programmers perform coding to manage a certain task, such as coding a program to monitor inventory within a company.
Computer programming courses are open to all students, whether novice or experienced. Most computer programmers have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related subject; however, some employers hire workers with an associate’s degree. Programmers also may program Web sites.
The Computer Programming curriculum prepares individuals for employment as computer programmers and related positions through study and applications in computer concepts, logic, programming procedures, languages, generators, operating systems, networking, data management, and business operations.
Computer programming is also a useful skill (though not always necessary) for people who are interested in computer science Whereas software engineering is interested specifically in making software, computer science tends to be oriented towards more theoretical or mathematical problems.

The Associate in Applied Sciences (AAS) in Computer Programming prepares students to work in entry-level positions in computer programming. While overall demand for coders is strong, computer programming can now be done from anywhere in the world, driving many organizations to hire programmers from other countries that pay lower wages. Computer programmers write and test the code that allows computer applications and programs to function.
Foundational skills taught include programming logic, object-oriented programming, applications development, including web and mobile application fundamentals, database applications, security concepts, and network and computer architecture fundamentals.
The online computer programming technology degree program provides professional study of computer programming software and techniques. Either way, beginning programmers generally must work under close supervision. The average placement rate for Valencia College’s A.S. degree and certificate programs ranges between 90 – 95% according to the latest FETPIP data.
What Is Computer Programming? Definition And Meaning
The mentality that there can be only one programming language is as illogical as believing there should be only one flavor of ice cream or only one style of automobile! FORTRAN , the first widely used high-level language to have a functional implementation, came out in 1957 6 and many other languages were soon developed – in particular, COBOL aimed at commercial data processing, and Lisp for computer research. To stay current in this career field, computer programmers must continue professional development to remain …
